Happy Fall Equinox
Psychic Readings by Kathleen
When a sweetheart introduced me to the Tarot deck in 1974, they were a relatively unknown esoteric tool. There were some who knew what it was and used it for divination, personal growth and games. Some who shunned it, fearing it was a lure of the devil. All these years later, the Tarot deck is in every bookstore, most people have at least heard it mentioned by someone, and it continues to constellate feelings of curiosity, awe and aversion.
I am often asked if I “just read the Tarot” or do other things as well. It’s the word “just” that I stumble on. Learning to read the Tarot well has been an ongoing challenge for me despite the fact that I have been doing it for most of my life and teaching it for almost half. The meaning of each of the 78 cards along with how that meaning is altered depending on it’s placement in a layout, in combination with the surrounding cards is honestly an intellectual challenge that would give most reason to pause! Out of the hundreds of enthusiasts I’ve taught over the years only a handful are still using the Tarot and as far as I know continue to study it with the same diligence I do.
Additionally there is the creative challenge of relevant story-telling. Telling stories is an ancient art form often used for healing individuals, community building and sustenance, and cultural identity. Story-telling has been a lauded gift for millenia. Each Tarot reading is a new story, created on the spot about a person which must resonate on some level for them. Each reading must be relevant, personal, and informative. Like a dream, it has a plethora of attributes which aim to guide and heal the listener.
The random placement of 78 picture cards depicting archetypal and universal symbols and creating a unique narrative with the display does something rather inexplicable to the mind. It stimulates new pathways to form in our brains, and encourages blood flow to areas of our brain we don’t normally exercise in our mundane, everyday lives. This mind opening has the synergistic effect of altering our vibration and elevating a scope which is better able to access information from unseen sources. That’s why it is often said that working with the Tarot amps psychic ability.
There are thousands of books on the market explaining the meanings of the cards and direction to how to read them but the most effective teaching tool is the cards. Buy a deck and practice using them for yourself.
And to the question, “Yes”, I answer. I just read the Tarot.
Tarot Workshop
Introductory Tarot Workshop on Sunday September 12 at Whispering Willows is now full. I look forward to seeing you all that day!
Quote:
“If you look at the cards alchemically, you will find alchemical connections, just as you will find Kabbalistic connections if you look at them from that point of view. The Tarot has an amazing capacity to illustrate metaphysical concepts. It’s something like a set of archetypal Tinkertoys that can be put together in almost endless configurations, to create image analogs of abstract theoretical constructions. The Tarot can not only illustrate but actually catalyze and reorganize insights. Whether you choose Zen, Reiki, yoga, rebirthing, traditional psychoanalysis, or any of a hundred different paths, the application of what we might call “Tarot awareness” will expand and accelerate your work.”
